IAS Officer Salary after 7th Pay Commission

Earlier the salary of IAS officer was decided with the system of “Pay Grades for Civil Services” but now the 7th Central Pay Commission has introduced ‘Consolidated Pay Scales’. So, now the salary and pay scale of IAS in India will be decided on ‘Basic Pay’ along with DA, TA and HRA. This is the reason why the salary of IAS officer will be excellent even at the entry level.


IAS Grade Pay

The monthly salary of IAS in India is divided into 8 grades with different pay scales and grade pay. Each level is also linked to the years of service required.

  • Junior Scale: The pay scale of IAS is Rs 50,000 – Rs 1,50,000 with grade pay of Rs 16,500. This is the entry level, with no years of service required.
  • Senior Time ScalePay Scale: Rs 50,000 – Rs 1,50,001 Grade Pay Rs 20,000. 5 years of service required.
  • Junior Administrative Grade: Pay scale Rs 50,000 – 1,50,002 and grade pay Rs 23,000. 9 years of service is required.

The highest level is that of Cabinet Secretary grade, with a pay scale of Rs 2,50,000 (fixed) and years of service varying.

IAS Salary Per Month

As per the latest 7th Pay Commission, the starting and entry level IAS officer salary is ₹56100 per month, which is equal to ₹56100 – 132000 per month. With years of service and after each promotion, the IAS salary in India increases per month. The highest post of Cabinet Secretary of India is around ₹250000 per month. This is after 37+ years of service as an IAS officer. The IAS officer salary per month also includes DA which is 9% which comes to Rs 2.5 lakh + 9% per month or around Rs 32.7 lakh per year.

UPSC IAS Salary and Allowances

IAS salary 2023 includes the basic pay along with several other allowances and components. As per the 7th Pay Commission norms, the HRA allowance is 24%, 16% and 8%. HRA is decided based on the city you are posted in. Also, as per the 7th Pay Commission, HRA will be increased when DA crosses 50% and 100%. But there is no increase in transport allowance in the salary structure of IAS officers. The DA which is 125% has been merged with TA.
